Output Noise

From scope fuzz to Vrms to noise spectral density — build the vocabulary before you compare parts or integration bands.

Teaching arc

  1. Scope reality — bandwidth-limited random noise: mean ≈ 0, pk-pk changes every trigger.
  2. Vrms — why σ (standard deviation) is the honest single number, not pk-pk.
  3. Adding sources — uncorrelated noise adds in power; cross terms average to zero.
  4. Noise density — nV/√Hz curve → square → integrate → √ for Vrms; tie back to the bell curve.
  5. CapstoneNoise Band Explorer (live tool).
